Tuakau Health Centre has been caring for our community for over 25 years. The Health Centre has evolved from a traditional solo GP surgery to a modern 6 GP practice with a patient population of over 7000 patients.

The Health Centre is situated in a newly refurbished purpose built health care facility, after a devastating fire in 2012. Our premises are easily accessible, with full facilities for the disabled and ample parking. We are conveniently situated next door to a building which contains a pharmacy, physiotherapist, dentist, chiropractor and small supermarket.

We have 5 permanent doctors, each with different work schedules so there should be an appointment available to suit you.

We have a commitment as a teaching practice, and are fortunate to have a different GP registrar working at the practice every 6 months. A GP registrar is a doctor with at least 3 years postgraduate experience now training in general practice.

To see the doctor of your choice, please give plenty of notice. For patients who are unwell on the day and need an urgent appointment we offer an urgent triage service, a role which our doctors share. In special circumstances when patients are too unwell or unable to travel to the surgery we do offer house calls by arrangement.

The Health Center is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 8am-5pm, late night Thursday 8am-7pm and Saturday mornings 9am-12noon. If you contact the surgery after hours your call will be directed to a nurse led triage service who will provide advice.

We are linked with the PHO, Procare. Our closest base hospital is Middlemore Hospital, approximately 40 minutes away. A proportion of our patients live in the Waikato DHB area, approximately 1 hour south.

We have a number of visiting specialists and services who provide regular clinics at our surgery to improve access including a geriatrician, mental health nurse specialist, diabetes nurse specialist, dietitian, podiatrist, and psychologist. Some of these clinics are DHB funded and others are partially subsidised clinics by private agencies.

We have established strong cultural ties with the local Maori community and kaumatua. We have a weekly PHO funded wellness clinic in Port Waikato, to help improve access to a remote area within our community.

We also provide a nurse led clinic each week at Tuakau College.

Our ongoing commitment to improvements in the quality of care to our patients is reflected in our Cornerstone Accreditation awarded by the Royal NZ College of GPs.

Our team pride themselves on providing high quality health care to our community in a warm, caring, family friendly environment. We are committed to not only treating those who are unwell or injured but also in keeping people well. We hope to educate, encourage and support our patients to achieve healthy lifestyles and live healthy lives.
